Welcome to the School of Management, Universiti Sains Malaysia
It is my great pleasure to welcome you to a vibrant and diverse community of learners, educators, researchers and professionals who share a passion for management, leadership, innovation and creating meaningful impact.
Today, the School of Management is home to approximately 4,000 students, comprising more than 2,200 undergraduate and almost 1,900 postgraduate students. Our community is enriched by students from 25 countries, creating a truly international learning environment where different perspectives, cultures and experiences come together. With local and international students, SOM is a place where you can learn not only from your lecturers, but also from one another.
Behind this vibrant community is a dedicated team of 51 academic staff and 17 administrative staff, who work together to create an environment where our students can learn, grow and thrive. Our people are at the heart of SOM, and we are committed to providing an educational experience that goes beyond the classroom.
At SOM, we believe that management education is not simply about acquiring knowledge. It is about developing the ability to think critically, lead confidently, adapt to change, embrace innovation and create value for society. As the world continues to evolve through technological advancement, artificial intelligence, changing business models and increasing global uncertainty, we are committed to preparing our students to become future-ready graduates and responsible leaders.
Our programmes are designed to connect theory with practice and to expose students to real-world challenges and opportunities. Through industry engagement, experiential learning, research, international exposure and a wide range of academic and co-curricular activities, we encourage our students to discover their strengths, explore new possibilities and develop the confidence to shape their own future.
What makes SOM special is our diversity. With students from different countries, cultures and backgrounds, we have an opportunity to learn from our differences, appreciate different perspectives and build meaningful connections that extend beyond the university. We encourage our community to be curious, respectful and open-minded, while embracing the values of integrity, inclusivity and excellence
Our journey is also part of the broader achievements of Universiti Sains Malaysia. USM continues to strengthen its position as a globally recognised university committed to academic excellence, sustainability and societal impact. For Academic Ranking of World University (ARWU) 2026, USM was ranked 1st in Malaysia. In the Times Higher Education (THE) Impact Rankings 2026, USM was ranked 5th globally for its contribution to sustainability, reflecting the University's commitment to creating positive social, economic and environmental impact in alignment with the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs). USM is also ranked 128th globally in the QS World University Rankings, reflecting its growing international standing and academic reputation.
These achievements remind us that education is not only about individual success. It is also about how we use knowledge, creativity and leadership to make a positive difference to society and the world. At SOM, we aspire to nurture graduates who are not only successful in their careers, but who are also ethical, responsible and capable of contributing meaningfully to the communities in which they live and work.
Whether you are joining us as an undergraduate embarking on your first university experience, or as a postgraduate student advancing your knowledge and expertise, we hope your journey at SOM will be challenging, inspiring and rewarding.
We are delighted to have you as part of our community and look forward to seeing your talents, ideas and aspirations flourish.
Once a SOMer, always a SOMer.
We look forward to walking this journey with you and supporting you every step of the way.
Thank you and best wishes.
