Building a Sustainable Future—Together

At the School of Management (SOM), sustainability is not just a goal—it’s a shared journey we take with our students, researchers, staff, and community. Every project, every publication, and every initiative reflects our deep commitment to shaping a better, more sustainable future.
Research That Drives Real Impact
Our researchers are actively contributing to global sustainability efforts by producing high-quality studies aligned with the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs). From exploring green supply chains and sustainable tourism, to applying blockchain technology in agriculture and examining responsible business practices, SOM's publications are helping decision-makers, industries, and communities create lasting, positive change.
With over 2,400 publications mapped to all 17 SDGs, our work doesn't stay on paper—it informs policy, empowers industry, and inspires solutions around the world.
Campus Life That Lives the Values
We believe sustainability must be lived, not just learned. That’s why SOM students and staff regularly take part in meaningful sustainability activities. Whether cleaning up beaches during International Coastal Clean-Up Day, hiking while collecting waste during Trash-Free Hill campaigns, or participating in local outreach programs in Borneo, our community brings sustainability to life.
Through fun, hands-on events like Go Green Explore SOM@USM and knowledge-sharing platforms like REAL 2.0 and our Academic Enhancement Workshops, we cultivate a culture of responsibility, wellness, and continuous learning—both inside and outside the classroom.
Our Aspiration
SOM is proud to be a driver of change—through the ideas we publish and the actions we take. We are gearing up to become a sustainability leader in business education by continuing to integrate SDG values into our research, teaching, and daily operations.
Together, we are proving that meaningful progress comes when knowledge meets action—and when people believe in building something better.
