Fifteen Operations Management students from the School of Management and two academic staff took part in the Quality Week of Robert Bosch (Malaysia) from 3 – 8 Oct 2013 held at the premises of Robert Bosch in the Penang Bayan Lepas Fee Industrial Zone. The theme of the Quality Week was “Know Quality, Think Quality, Produce Quality.” In line with this theme, students had to know quality from their lectures, readings and experiences, engage intensely to think quality for their new assignments, and plan to produce a product using appropriate quality control techniques.
At the launching, Mr. Lothar Mergili, Managing Director, spoke at great length about instilling quality consciousness among employees.
Our Operations Management students exhibited their new projects. In addition, three groups of students presented their projects to Robert Bosch employees in the afternoon. The Robert Bosch Quality Week provided students an avenue to develop their soft skills. The presenters had to prepare new projects to suit manufacturing. All groups had only three weeks to prepare. These young men and women had to bear with work pressure and deadlines. They earned praises especially for their delivery skills. Questions that required intervention were appropriately responded to by their advisors. Credit must go to all the students who courageously rose to the occasion.
The Quality Week ended with a closing ceremony and Certificates of Appreciation were given to students, the School of Management and the two Advisors. The students came away richer by experiences.
The School of Management would like to express its heartfelt thanks to Robert Bosch for this invitation and excellent hospitality. The warm reception given and interest shown by Mr. Lothar Mergili, the Managing Director, Mr. Ralf Lehmann, Director, Quality Management and Method Department, and several managers were certainly felt especially when they took time to discuss the exhibits and student development. The School records its deep appreciation to Mr. Rizarrudin Mohd Ismail for his enthusiasm to collaborate with the School and for extending his fullest cooperation in facilitating the participation by Operations Management students in the Quality Week.
