Internship Experience

05During my internship period, I was blessed enough to be given a lifetime opportunity to be present at an international event organized by the International World War II Museum Association (IWMA).  The association has organized a First Congress Session on the 12th of October 2016, which Penang War Museum was invited to attend the congress along with other international World War II museums around the world. Initially, I was instructed to prepare a speech for one of the museum’s director that is related to the topic provided, which understandings of the company’s background is essential for delivering an effective speech. I also had to communicate with the IWMA secretariat and prepared information, graphics, etc., for the museum’s presentation material which is now being displayed at the Central Museum of The Great Patriotic War, Moscow.

My journey to Moscow was filled with tons of activities and experiences which has opened my eyes on how international management and tourism works. The host,(collaboration between China and Russia) managed the event efficiently where they prepared accommodations and transports for the association members, translating services and even excursions in between the museums in Moscow. I also grabbed the fortunate chance to socialize with the association members with different backgrounds and cultures. Although sometimes there were some communication barriers between members, we however managed to overcome it quite well understanding each cultures and also with excellent soft skills. The tourism activities in the museums around Moscow is very encouraging which I personally think that Penang War Museum could learn and apply some methods in order to improve the existing infrastructure to meet the international criteria of international war museums around the world. Representing this museum, USM and Malaysia, I would like to say how proud I am with the achievement that we as a team managed to bring Penang War Museum to an international stage. Therefore, I would like to take this opportunity to thank School of Management, USM and also Penang War Museum Sdn. Bhd. for the wonderful experience I have gained.
